PATS - The Best Medicine for Two Health Care Organizations MSQPC Newsletter, August 2001 Two major hospitals are using MSQPC's Process Activated Training System® (PATS) to improve critical hospital processes. The Regional Medical Center at Memphis (THE MED) and Baptist Regional Medical Center (BRMC) located in Corbin, Kentucky are using PATS to teach health care professionals about their work process by focusing on individual work processes involved in a job. PATS is a behavioral-based teaching and learning process that each hospital is using to create an environment of continuous learning and cycle time reduction in delivering better patient care. THE MED is focusing on using the PATS system to improve their billing cycles, which in turn allows a better cash flow for improved and expanded patient care areas. BRMC uses PATS in their pharmacy, food services, admission and emergency room. PATS is an effective learning intervention for health care professionals to develop a formal on-the-job training (OJT) system that empowers employees as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who know best what it takes to do their jobs correctly the first time. Employees "Best Practices" are documented and transformed into training scripts that are displayed throughout the hospital.
